CAFOD / WINGS

CAFOD (Catholic Agency For Overseas Development), is the official Catholic aid agency for England and Wales, and part of Caritas International. We work through the local Church to reach people and places that others can’t.

Across the world we bring hope and compassion to poor communities, standing side by side with them to end poverty and injustice. We work on long-term development as well as responding to emergencies.

Over the last five years at CAFOD we have been particularly inspired by Pope Francis’ encyclical letter Laudato Si’ and its call for us all to respond to both the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor.

WINGS (World In Need Group Scheme) was started as a parish group in 1974 with similar aims to CAFOD. The group also worked with other charities e.g. to support Fair Trade and Christian Aid Week. WINGS has always worked closely with CAFOD and now a small group of parish volunteers have joined forces to work for both in supporting overseas development.
