As you know dear brothers and sisters, this is the time of year when our Bishop calls his priests to discuss parish moves and new appointments. Over the past few days, I have found it very difficult to keep going after hearing the news. I received a call from the Bishop – he told me that he has received many letters and many emails from our parishioners which clearly shows your love and affection for me. For this I am most grateful to all of you. However, I have some sad news to share; the Bishop has asked me to move to the mainland. I have always been so close to all of you but it is difficult for me to separate myself from you. The day I found out that I had to move away from here was one of the hardest days for me to accept. Every second of my life in Guernsey has been a blessing and I have truly, truly enjoyed my time here. I do not know how much I have achieved during these years, but I can tell you all without a moment’s hesitation, that you have made me feel completely at home with all of you. You have made me smile every day; you have made me laugh countless times and today you are making me cry. Where ever I may be I will always remember you. You are among the most wonderful people that I have ever met in my entire life. As planned, I will be going to India for my holiday. I will return to Guernsey at the end of July and the Bishop has asked me to take up my new appointment some time in September. I do not want to say any more at this moment because I know I will cry.
