Elizabeth Hutchinson has been awarded a BEM in The Queen’s New Year’s Honours list.
Mrs Hutchinson, who was born in the UK and has been a Guernsey resident for 30 years is an independent trainer specialising in all aspects of school libraries.
Her career has ranged from being a school librarian to the head of the Schools’ Library Service.
She is also an international speaker, vice-chairman of the #GreatSchoolLibraries campaign, a committee member for the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals School Library Group, renowned blogger and a regular columnist in the groups’ publication, Information Professional.
‘When I first found out about the award I was initially very shocked that someone thought what I was doing was enough to nominate me,’ she said.
‘I hope it gives me the platform to continue what I am doing to raise awareness about the importance of school libraries. The BEM gives me the opportunity to share my passion and knowledge further, it is truly an honour to receive it.’
