Last week the Overseas Aid & Development Commission agreed to a request for an exceptional award of £20,000 to support the emergency relief work being undertaken by the Archdiocese of Bamenda to support the many thousands who have been displaced from their homes in the wake of the ongoing civil conflict in the region. This award will go a long way to providing the much needed food aid and medical supplies. The Commission noted the strong links between our Parish and our Diocese and the Archdiocese and the generosity of the Guernsey Catholic Community during our Lenten Appeal. It is a fantastic outcome and also serves to ensure that the conflict in Cameroon has not been overlooked and forgotten in Guernsey.
There is a piece on Bamenda in the Diocesan ENews this week which makes sobering reading and describes the situation there as worsening.
