Meeting on Tuesday 4th October 2016
Present: Father Paul, Father Michal, Deacon Mark, Paula Brierley, Owen Lee, Paul Burnard, Lucy Despres, Pat Devenport.
1. The meeting opened with a prayer led by Owen Lee.
2. Apologies for absence – Canon Michael.
3. The Minutes of the September meeting were approved.
4. Matters arising
a) Lucy Despres was welcomed as a new member of the Parish Evangelisation Council.
b) It was agreed that the “Guernsey Pastoral Council” would in future be known as the “Parish Evangelisation Council”, with the focus being on evangelisation.
c) The participation of young people in the life of the parish was discussed at some length. All aspects of funding, participation etc will be reviewed at the November meeting.
d) The letter sent to Deputy Mary Lowe, re proposed future liquor licensing hours, with the views expressed by the Parish Evangelisation Council, was read to members.
a) The possibility of having extra times for confession when a visiting priest is in residence was discussed and will be considered.
b) The funding of young people travelling to England to participate in diocesan youth activities was discussed. The possibility of this happening in the future will be looked into.
c) Pat Devenport suggested having a list of people in the parish who would be willing to assist patients from Alderney and Sark needing to spend time in hospital in Guernsey. This could not be co-ordinated from the Parish Office but Pat would be willing to do so.
d) The Parish Evangelisation Council are hoping to represent the Catholic Church on one of the late night openings in town in December. This would be in the form of a stall selling Christmas cards, cribs, candles etc. It is hoped that the Filipino Choir would be kind enough to sing on that evening.
The date of the next meeting will be Tuesday 8th November at 6.00pm and prayers will be led by Pat Devenport.
