Meeting on Tuesday 06th September 2016 at 6.00pm
Present: Canon Michael, Father Paul, Father Michal, Deacon Mark, Paula Brierley, Owen Lee, Pat Devenport.
1.The meeting opened with The Lord’s Prayer.
2.Apologies for absence – Paul Burnard.
3.The Minutes of the July meeting were approved.
4. Matters arising
a) The procession to celebrate the feast of 15th August was held at Les Cotils and although well supported, it would be nice to see an increase in numbers attending in future.
b)The Pastoral Council will adopt a slight change in format and may be known as “The Parish Evangelisation Council” in the future. It will be necessary to recruit a further 5 members bringing the total, including clergy, to 12. The main focus of the group will be evangelisation.
c)Canon Michael has plans to increase the presence of clergy in Alderney, hopefully to begin in October. Each priest will spend approx. 10 days in Alderney from the Friday, through the following week, returning to Guernsey on the Monday.
d)A detailed “Youth Update” from Paul Burnard was emailed to GPC members.
Correspondence and Communication
A letter was received from the Committee for Home Affairs giving us, as a Faith Group, the opportunity to comment on the proposed relaxation of liquor licences on Good Friday and Christmas Day. It was agreed that we would respond and that our view would be to restrict rather than relax the opening hours on the above two days.
Father Paul explained to the group why he felt it was necessary to have an information booklet in each of the churches to assist new or visiting clergy. It was agreed that this would be very beneficial. There is already a similar booklet at Notre Dame.
Canon Michael welcomed Father Michal.
The date of the next meeting will be Tuesday 4th October at 6.00pm and prayers will be led by Owen Lee.
The meeting closed at 7.30pm with a prayer led by Paula Brierley.
