Mary’s Meals is a charity headquartered in Scotland, their vision is that every child receives a daily meal in their place of education and that all those who have more than they need share with those who lack even the most basic things. Their mission is to enable people to offer their money, goods, skills, time or prayer and through this involvement, provide the most effective help to those suffering the effects of extreme poverty in the world’s poorest communities.
Working throughout the world, Asia, Africa, South America, Europe and Caribbean Mary’s Meals provides daily meals to chronically hungry children in a place of learning. In this way the hungry child is attracted to the classroom where they can gain a better future for themselves and their community. It costs just £12.20 to feed a child for a whole year.
During the course of this year, the Pastoral Council would like the parish to work together to raise money for this very worthwhile cause. 93p of every £1 donated is spent directly on the charitable activities. The Union of Catholic Mothers is very kindly donating the proceeds of their raffle to commence our parish’s contribution to this initiative.
More information can be found on Mary’s Meals website marysmeals.org.uk. If you think either you or a group that you are in would like to hold a fundraising event please contact the pastoral council. Leaflets will be distributed this weekend giving more information on Mary’s Meals.
