Christian Bookshop re-opening

The book shop, which was formerly at Les Cotils, has just recently opened at No 6, Albany, opposite the bus terminus in Town. It is currently open on Tuesday, W ednesday , Thursday and Saturday . Please call Carole on 722351/07911 725413 if you are able to volunteer cover.

Delancey Drop in Club

This Youth Club currently runs on Saturday evenings from 7-9pm in Delancey Parish Centre and is open to all youngsters in Years 6 or above primarily from the Catholic community.

The club has been in existence for many years and requires two volunteers each week on a rota basis.

Over the last few months the helpers have dwindled down to just 2! This means that the club can’t operate on a weekly basis for the time being.

Please, if you can offer your help occasionally, it would be appreciated by all, in particular the youngsters.

Delancey cleaners appeal

Please consider helping to keep the Church clean for about an hour a week on a rota basis.

The current team have been beavering away in the background for many years and are gtting old. The more people on the rota the less often any one person has to do it. Consider also working in pairs perhaps.

Friends of Romania

Friends of Romania would like to thank all who have donated goods for the needy people of Bistrita and the surrounding area. Due to this generosity we now find ourselves having to send two vehicles out this Autumn instead of the usual one. Each trip costs approx. £1,000 for the fuel and road taxes across Europe. The drivers are volunteers who pay all their own expenses, hotels and meals etc. We would be very grateful for any donations towards the cost of fuel etc.

Safeguarding Training

How do we know its happening?
Responding to allegations
Guidelines for safe practice

Open to all parishioners aged 18 years and over involved in either paid or voluntary work with children or vulnerable adults. (This includes Eucharistic Ministers who visit people at home.)

The Diocesan Safeguarding Commission has made a statement that this training is to be compulsory for all those involved in working with our most Vulnerable Groups.

Notre Dame Church Cleaning

After many years at the helm, Margaret Henry is handing over the admin of the rota to Margaret Pollock. Unfortunately for various reasons we are 5 names down since last year and are urgently looking for more volunteers. If we can keep the list at 13 volunteers your commitment would be for an hour or so once in every three months.

CAFOD – Greenbelt Volunteers Wanted

Are you enthusiastic, energetic and free over the August bank holiday weekend (28th-31st Aug)? Then CAFOD wants to hear from you! They are looking for active volunteers (age 18+) to represent CAFOD at Greenbelt, a Christian music and arts festival, this summer. You’ll receive a free weekend pass and meal expenses, and in turn you’ll help staff the CAFOD stall and promote their Climate Justice campaign. You’ll also have time off to relax and enjoy the exciting festival activities. Make your own travel arrangements there and back and bring a tent; they’ll do the rest!

School Volunteers

CAFOD Portsmouth are currently seeking volunteers to visit Catholic schools to deliver lively presentations about CAFOD’s work. Expenses covered, training provided, materials supplied and ongoing support given. The role does not require the full educational expertise of a teacher. What is essential is the ability to communicate with young people of all ages.

CAFOD Portsmouth will be holding a special training day for anyone interested in speaking about CAFOD in their local community. The day will be held from 10.30am until 4.30pm at the parish hall, St Joseph’s, Queen’s Road, Aldershot.

Vincentian Volunteers

The Vincentian Volunteer programme gives young people (18-30 approx.) the opportunity of a meaningful one year volunteering experience in a Christian context. Volunteers live together for a year, sharing faith and community while working in charitable projects. These include such projects as day centres, hostels for homeless people, special schools for the visually impaired and nurseries for families who otherwise could not afford childcare. Volunteers consistently describe their volunteer year as instructive, fulfilling and fun.

The volunteer programme has been running for the past 16 years in the UK. In that time, over 200 young people have been volunteers. They have served a large number of disadvantaged people and, it is hoped, have made positive differences. Many of the Volunteers have gone on to work in caring professions.
