Parish Family Recipes
Parish Family Recipes

During Lent we would like to collect recipes which are special to the families of the parish. We would like recipes from every nationality if possible (e.g. the food that was enjoyed from around the world at the last two Pentecost Vigil celebrations!) Alderney, Sark, Brecqhou parishioners – please send in your recipes!

These will be put into a booklet which will then be sold at the Pentecost Vigil celebration and the money raised will be donated to Le Platon Home.

All recipes can be sent to the Parish Office by letter or e-mail or given to Fr Stan.

ALDERNEY HOSPITALITY
ALDERNEY HOSPITALITY

A suggestion has been made to the Pastoral Council that some local parishioners may be happy to offer hospitality in the form of lifts to and from the airport and overnight accommodation to parishioners from Alderney to enable them to join in Parish Celebrations at times.

If you feel that you would like to do this or would like to know more, could you please forward your details to The Secretary GPC c/o Ampthill House, Cordier Hill, St PP, GY1 1JH in writing or by e-mail or telephone 249472.

‘Lord Teach Us to Pray’ Led by a team from Portsmouth, the day will consist of a variety of workshops held at Blanchelande on Saturday 28th April, 10.00am to 4.00pm – please see posters displayed in each Church for further details. To book a place, please contact the parish office.

FAIRTRADE SALE
FAIRTRADE SALE

St Joseph’s Hall this weekend after the 8am and 10.30am Masses. A variety of Fairtrade goodies will be on sale – all profits will go to CAFOD. We are a registered Fairtrade parish and Fairtrade coffee and tea are used at nearly all parish events e.g after Mass coffee and other meetings. Fairly traded goods are widely available in all the big supermarkets as well as restaurants and cafes in the Island

For the whole parish on Saturday 17th March 2012 Mass at 6. 00pm in Our Lady Star of the Sea fol- lowed by a party in St Mary & St Michael School. We need you to come along and make it all go with a swing. Please bring a plate of food for the buffet. Anyone willing to help organise, play a tune, sing or dance, please contact Greg Harvey 245197 or Ron Harnden, 246357. Raffle prizes would be welcome.

Met on February 7th. Items discussed were the installation of a disabled toilet by St Joseph’s Hall; an idea to offer hospitality to Alderney parishioners should they wish to join in Parish celebrations in Guernsey: a date for the Open Air Mass; Day of Reflection for the Parish in April. The next meeting will take place on Tuesday 6th March and any items you may wish discussed please submit in writing to ‘The Secretary, GPC” c/o Ampthill House. The Minutes of the January meeting can now be viewed on the notice boards and on the website.

Stations of the Cross

Mondays 11.30am in Our Lady Star of the Sea followed by12 noon Mass Fridays 7.00pm in St Joseph’s preceded by 6. 30pm Mass. *

Saturdays 5.00pm in Notre Dame followed by 5. 30pm Mass

*Friday 9th March – a particular invite to all young people to come along (altar servers, confirmation candidates and also those confirmed in last few years) and take an active part in the Mass and the Stations. Parents are welcome! Refreshments will follow in the Hall.

DVD course during Lent

A new DVD course has been produced by CaFE (Catholic faith evangelisation) entitled ‘ The Saints, Helping us T oday’. This consists of 6 sessions about the lives of 6 different saints, and their relevance to our modern world. This will be shown on W ednesda ys in the Youth room at St. Joseph’s. Each session will start with tea and coffee, at 7.30pm, and will be finished by 9pm. The second session is this Wednesday, March 7th, and is about St. Benedict. It doesn’t matter if you missed the first week – everyone is welcome!

Mass and Stations of the Cross on Fridays – during the season of Lent, we will move the usual 5.30pm Notre Dame Mass to a Mass in St Joseph’s beginning at 6.30pm which will be followed at 7.00pm by Stations of the Cross. This is to make accessibility easier for more people to avail themselves of the opportunity of Mass and Stations. This mo ve will tak e effect from Friday 24th February. We will return to the normal Mass timetable after Lent. Stations of the Cross will also be on Mondays at 11.30am in Our Lady Star of the Sea followed by 12 noon Mass (from 27th Feb) and on Saturdays at 5.00pm in Notre Dame followed by 5.30pm Mass.

Distribution of ashes at all Masses. Mass times are:

St Joseph’s 7.00am, 9.30am and 7.00pm;

Our Lady Star of the Sea 11.00am;

Notre Dame 12.05pm Please note – parking will be available in the St Joseph’s Church car park through the arch in La Couperderie. However please do not enter or leave the car park via the Grange.
