Support for non-churchgoing Catholics

A Resource Day to support ministry and outreach to non-churchgoing Catholics will be offered at the Christian Education Centre, 4 Southgate Drive, Crawley , West Sussex RH10 6RP on 3rd March 2012 from 10.00 am to 4.30pm, with coffee served from 9. 30 am.

The day is part of a national tour called” Crossing the Threshold” which is an initiative of the Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales. It has been organised in response to concerns repeatedly expressed by priests and parishioners about the large number of baptised who never or rarely attend Sunday Mass. Speakers include: Archbishop Peter Smith (Southwark) and Bishop Kieran Conry (Arundel and Brighton), among others. There is no charge to attend the day but pre-booking is requested.

Christian Bookshop re-opening

The book shop, which was formerly at Les Cotils, has just recently opened at No 6, Albany, opposite the bus terminus in Town. It is currently open on Tuesday, W ednesday , Thursday and Saturday . Please call Carole on 722351/07911 725413 if you are able to volunteer cover.

The next Cygnet meeting is this Thursday, February 9th from 7 – 9pm in St Joseph’s Youth Room. Dr Ray will be giving a talk about his work in Haiti. Everyone in school years 9, 10 and 11 is welcome!

Catholic Youth Event – fundraising

In March this year 10,000 young Catholics from across the UK will be going to ‘Flame’, a Catholic youth event at Wembley Arena. This event is a follow-up to the Pope’s visit. There will be several speakers, including Archbishop Vincent Nichols, and other activities. Ten of our young people from ‘Cygnet’ will be going to this, and to help subsidise the cost of getting there we invite you, if you wish, to fill a jam-jar with your loose change. Jam- jars are available in the porches of all the churches. Thank You.

Education Sunday

Next Sunday the retiring collection will be taken up for our two Catholic Primary schools. This collection helps us greatly with the upkeep of our schools as we receive no funding from the States of Guernsey for the upkeep of the buildings. In the past few years you have been most generous and hope you will continue to do so this year. Money received on Education Sunday remains in the Island and is spent on our two schools.
